Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained a 19-year-old resident of Chechnya who sought to flee to Kazakhstan after he faced potential criminal charges for his unwillingness to serve in Ukraine. Yasin Mykhmad-Emiyevich Khalidov was detained as he tried to cross into Kazakhstan from the Siberian region of Omsk on May 20. The former police officer was transferred to the Russian National Guard last year and sent to serve in Ukraine. During his four months at war, Khalidov repeatedly asked to be released to care for his sick mother. Upon return to Chechnya, he was detained and threatened with possible terrorism charges.
