Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu says that the main threats to Russia are international terrorism, instability that could follow the withdrawal of international combat forces from Afghanistan at the end of 2014, and the expansion of NATO.

Shoigu made the comments in an interview with Rossiya 1 television that was aired on November 9.

He said that Moscow believes NATO expansion "in the direction of our borders" is "absolutely ungrounded."

"We keep saying this, but it still continues," Shoigu said.
