Russians have been celebrating after pole vault superstar Yelena Isinbayeva captured her third title at the athletics world championships in Moscow.
Isinbayeva, 31, soared 4.89 meters at Luzhniki Stadium on the evening of August 13. The reigning Olympic champion, Jennifer Suhr of the United States, and another standout, Cuba’s Yarisley Silva, failed to match the height, securing victory for Isinbayeva before the raucously cheering home crowd.
It was the third world title for Isinbayeva. She won the world crown in 2005 and 2007 as well as Olympic gold medals in 2004 and 2008, but had experienced a slump in form in recent years.
