A painting by Wassily Kandinsky has been auctioned for $23 million – the most ever for a work by the Russian avant-garde artist.
The oil painting “Studie fur Improvisation 8,” dated 1909, was sold on November 7 during a sale by Christie’s auction house in New York.
The work was sold by Switzerland’s Vokart Foundation.
In other sales at the auction, a Claude Monet water lilies painting was sold for nearly $43.8 million.
