A court in Russia's Urals city of Yekaterinburg on August 24 fined the local branch of the Memorial human rights group 350,000 rubles ($3,700) for "failure to properly report its activities as a foreign agent." Memorial branch chief Aleksei Mosin said at the hearing the group filed all papers with the Justice Ministry, but ministry officials said the monthly report did not comply with newly adopted regulations. Mosin said his group was not informed of new regulations. In early August, another court fined Mosin's group 300,000 rubles for allegedly discrediting Russia's armed forces involved in Moscow-launched war in Ukraine.
