Four miners have died from smoke in Kuzbass mine No. 7 in the Prokopievsky district of Russia's Kemerovo region.
The Ministry for Emergency Situations for the Kemerovo region said another four miners are missing, while 69 other miners were evacuated to the surface.
The ministry said the smoke in the shaft was the result of an explosion of methane gas.
It has suspended the rescue operation at the mine for fear of further explosions.
