The doping ban against Russian wrestler Anzor Boltukayev has been extended to two years, but he will be eligible to return in time for the next Summer Olympics, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has announced.
The CAS on September 13 upheld an appeal by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) that the original 10-month suspension handed to Boltukayev for doping at last year's European championship was not severe enough.
With the 10 months already served, the former European champion will be eligible to return in time for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Boltukayev, winner of the 2016 European title, was stripped of his silver medal at the 2017 championships in Serbia after he tested positive for the banned substance higenamine, found in some fat-burning food supplements.
Boltukayev's ban meant that Alyaksandr Hushtyn of Belarus was elevated to the silver medal, while Elizbar Odikadze of Georgia was given the bronze.
