Turkmenistan's state-run media say President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov has fired the energy-rich nation's minister for oil and gas.
The reports said Bairamgeldy Nedirov was removed from office on May 25, just two days after Turkmenistan, Pakistan, and India signed an agreement aimed at the construction of a pipeline that would cross Afghanistan to bring Turkmen Caspian gas to India and Pakistan.
Official media quoted the Turkmen presidential office as saying that Nedirov, who had served as oil and gas minister since August 2008, was dismissed “for serious shortcomings in his work.”
No further details were given.
The deputy chairman of the Turkmengas state-controlled corporation, Kakageldy Abdyllaev, has been appointed acting oil and gas minister.
