A witness has told a court in Kyiv that former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko paid $3 million for the killing of a Ukrainian lawmaker 16 years ago.
The testimony comes one day after another witness told the Pechera district court that the 1996 murder of Yevhen Shcherban had been ordered by Tymoshenko.
She is already serving a seven-year term for abuse of office that she and supporters say is politically motivated and was not present in court.
The Pechera district court also ruled on February 15 that Tymoshenko must pay the equivalent of $2,000 for her refusal to appear in the Kyiv court.
Tymoshenko, who is currently in a medical facility in the eastern city of Kharkiv, says she has never refused to show up.
She insists that all the charges against her -- which include other allegations of white-collar crime -- are politically motivated.
