Three Ukrainian Soldiers Killed In Volatile East
Ukraine says three government troops have been killed and 15 wounded in fighting with pro-Russia separatists in eastern Ukraine in the past 24 hours.
The violence comes despite the warring sides last month agreeing to a cease-fire that went into effect on September 1, to coincide with the new school year.
The deaths come on the eve of a visit by the foreign ministers of Germany and France to Kyiv in a bid to revive the cease-fire.
Ukrainian military spokesman Oleksandr Motuzyanyk told reporters that the latest deaths occurred in the eastern provinces of Luhansk and Donetsk.
"Tragically, three Ukrainian servicemen were killed and 15 of our fighters were wounded. One serviceman remains unaccounted for," Motuzyanyk said.
Fighting between government forces and separatists has killed more than 9,500 people in Ukraine's east since April 2014.
