Here's more on Russia's latest claims regarding MH17:

Russia Claims New Images Show Rebels Did Not Down MH17

The latest Russian claims were presented to the media by Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov on September 26.
The latest Russian claims were presented to the media by Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov on September 26.

Russia has released what it claims are radar images showing that the missile that downed Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was fired from territory that was not controlled by pro-Russia separatists in eastern Ukraine.

The claim by Russia's Defense Ministry comes just two days before a Dutch-led investigative team is to release a report on where the missile that hit flight MH17 on July 17, 2014, was fired from. All 298 passengers and crew members aboard the plane were killed in the incident.

The international investigation is collecting evidence for criminal charges against those responsible.

"The fact that Ukraine has not yet released information from the radar station suggests that the location from which the missile was launched -- if it was a Buk -- was in territory controlled by the Ukrainian armed forces," Russian Army commander Andrei Koban said during a press briefing on September 26.

The Defense Ministry said it would share the new data with investigators.

Russia and Ukraine blame each other for downing the Boeing 777.

A 15-month investigation concluded in 2015 by Dutch authorities said a Buk missile shot down the plane, but did not explicitly say who fired the missile.

However, it identified a 320-square-kilometer area where it said the launch must have taken place, and all of that territory was controlled by Russia-backed separatists at the time. (AP, AFP)
