Military exercises called Rapid Trident 2012 have officially started in Ukraine.
The ceremony of the maneuvers’ opening was held on the territory of the Ground Forces Academy’s international peacekeeping center.
Almost 900 Ukrainian troops and almost 170 U.S. soldiers along with military personnel from 16 countries, including Austria, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Canada, Georgia, Germany, Macedonia, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, and Sweden are taking part in the maneuvers on the Yavoriv military field in the western Lviv region.
The troops from 16 countries will practice joint efforts in peacekeeping operations.
The exercises are expected to last two weeks.
