KYIV -- The Kyiv city organization of the Nasha Ukraina (Our Ukraine) party excluded party leader and former President Viktor Yushchenko in a decision that was overturned hours later by the party's political council.
The Kyiv city branch said in a statement that Yushchenko's decision to replace members of district committees in southern and eastern parts of Ukraine during last year's parliamentary elections "caused damage to the prestige of the party. By taking such actions, Yushchenko betrayed the ideas of the party."
The Kyiv city organization said Yushchenko was guilty of "systematic violations of the party's regulations" and had tried "to usurp the party's leadership."
Our Ukraine's political council later confirmed Yushchenko's membership and ordered the activities of the Kyiv city organization suspended.
