KYIV -- About 100 Ukrainian activists have picketed the government building in Kyiv to protest its decision to increase utility fees by some 30 percent, RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service reports.
The protesters, from the national Svoboda movement, held signs reading "Boycott The Utilities Fees -- Our Only Way Out," "The Government Is a Puppet of the Oligarchs and the IMF," and "Where are the Better Living Standards?"
Police monitored the protest but did not intervene.
The Ukrainian government introduced a gradual increase in housing utilities last year to meet the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) conditions for allocating loans to Ukraine.
