Ukrainian officials said today the case of an army officer charged with bribe-taking while serving in a Ukrainian peacekeeping unit in Kosovo has been sent to court, RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service reports.
The officer, whose name was not made public, headed the gasoline distribution center for Ukrainian peacekeepers in Kosovo in 2008-2009. Investigators with the Ukrainian Prosecutor-General's Directorate for Military Prosecutors say he received some 60,000 euros ($82,489) in bribes for illegally providing a local private company with 1.2 million liters of gasoline.
The officer is being held in pretrial detention. He has been charged with abuse of his official position, bribe-taking, and money laundering.
