Russia has scrapped an agreement with the United States on cooperation in law enforcement and drug control.
The Russian government announced on its official website that the agreement "does not address current realities and has exhausted its potential."
Under the 2002 agreement, the United States provided financial assistance to help Russia combat drug trafficking and other crimes, including human trafficking, Internet technology crimes, money laundering, corruption, and terrorism.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has been ordered to inform U.S. authorities of the decision.
The cancelation of the agreement comes amid tensions in U.S.-Russia relations over sanctions imposed by the United States on Russian officials allegedly involved in human rights abuses and a recent Russian ban on adoptions of children by U.S. citizens.
