The daughter of the Uzbek president, Gulnara Karimova, has accused the chief of the country's National Security Service of blocking her path to the presidency.

Karimova wrote on Twitter over the weekend that Rustam Inoyatov has ordered her "to keep a low profile, so as not to be touched."

Karimova also used Twitter to deny reports that her father, President Islam Karimov, had beaten her.

And she criticized her mother, her aunt, and her cousin, blaming them for the "mess in the province of Ferghana," where many people are under pressure "because of them."

The family is widely believed to control large swaths of the economy in Ferghana.

In recent days, several media outlets controlled by Karimova were taken off the air and the bank accounts of her media holding company, the Terra Group, were frozen.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
