Pristina, 25 March 2004 (RFE/RL) -- United Nations officials in Kosovo say two French peacekeepers have been wounded in a grenade attack at the bridge linking the ethnically divided town of Kosovska Mitrovica.
Reports say a Serb man is suspected of carrying out the attack Wednesday. He was reported detained with the help of local residents.
UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has meanwhile expressed his shock and outrage over the killing of a UN police officer from Ghana and a local Kosovar colleague in a shooting attack north of Pristina late on 23 March 2004.
Annan, referring to the shooting and last week's violence between Serbs and ethnic Albanians that left at least 28 people dead, said in a statement that the current violence and instability in Kosovo cannot be tolerated.
Kosovo yesterday marked the fifth anniversary of the start of the 1999 NATO bombing campaign that stopped the Serbian crackdown on the province's ethnic Albanian majority.
