20 May 2004 - A Qatari minister today said that international donors have pledged $350 million to expand and train Afghanistan's security forces.
Qatar's Interior Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser al-Thani made his comment after a two-day donor conference in Qatar that focused on reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan.
Afghan Interior Minister Ali Ahmad Jalali, who attended the conference, yesterday said that the funds will be used to recruit and finance some 12,000 border guards and 10,000 soldiers.
