Newspaper Editor Shot Dead In Montenegro

28 May 2004 -- The editor in chief of a newspaper close to Montenegro's opposition party died today following an attack by unidentified gunmen.
Dusko Jovanovic, editor of the "Dan" newspaper, was shot at from a car as he left his office overnight. The motive for the killing was not immediately known.

"Dan" newspaper is close to the Socialist People's Party, which was an ally of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic.

Jovanovic was the first journalist to be charged with contempt of court by the UN war crimes tribunal after authorities said he published the name of a protected witness at Milosevic's trial.
