29 May 2004 -- Rescue officials say at least 35 people were killed and some 350 injured by an earthquake that hit northern and central Iran yesterday.
Officials said the quake on 28 May seriously damaged more than 80 villages in Qazvin, one of the worst-hit provinces.
Survivors were reported to have spent the night outdoors due to fear of aftershocks.
The U.S. Geological Survey agency said the quake measured 6.2 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was in Baladeh, about 70 kilometers north of Tehran near the Caspian. The quake was felt in the capital, with some windows reported broken.
