31 May 2004 -- The head of Russia's security council, Igor Ivanov, said today that his country wants to strengthen its ties with Tajikistan.
Ivanov made his remarks after meeting with Tajik President Imomali Rakhmonov in the Tajik capital Dushanbe.
Ivanov said Moscow has "strong intentions" to further develop its strategic partnership with the Central Asian country.
Ivanov said he is in Tajikistan to prepare for a meeting of the Russian and Tajik presidents later this week.
