More Than 20 Killed In Al-Fallujah

19 June 2004 -- Witnesses in the central Iraqi city of Al-Fallujah say a U.S. air raid has killed as many as 22 people.
News agencies quoted hospital officials and local police as saying U.S. aircraft fired missiles that damaged houses in the city.

There was no immediate comment from the U.S. military.

Al-Fallujah was the scene of a monthlong insurrection this year that killed 10 U.S. soldiers and many more Iraqis. The U.S. agreed to withdraw in April and handed control over to a local Iraqi unit.

In the south, a Portuguese national and two Iraqis working for Iraq's oil company were killed by a roadside bomb near the city of Al-Basrah. The blast appeared aimed at disrupting Iraq's oil industry.

Near the town of Baqabu, north of Baghdad, fighting was reportedly continuing between the U.S. military and Iraqi insurgents.

In Baghdad, attackers today fired three mortar shells, injuring one policeman and two civilians.
