Fighting Reported In Central Iraq, Explosion In Mosul

24 June 2004 -- Fighting erupted today in three cities in central Iraq when militants launched what appears to be simultaneous attacks on police stations.
Insurgents attacked several police stations in Baquba and Al-Ramadi with rocket-propelled grenades. At least 11 people, most of them policemen, were reported killed in Baquba. At least four people were reported killed in Al-Ramadi.

U.S. troops in Baquba also came under fire. A military spokesman said one U.S. soldier and two insurgents were killed in the fighting that followed.

Fighting between U.S. forces and insurgents erupted outside Al-Fallujah but there were no immediate reports of casualties there. U.S. forces were backed by air support.

A car bomb exploded in the northern city of Mosul. Several people were reported killed in what appeared to be a suicide bombing outside a police station.
