27 June 2004 -- Voters are casting ballots in the second round of Serbia's presidential election.
The race is between the pro-Western reformer candidate, Boris Tadic, and hard-line nationalist, Tomislav Nikolic.
Opinion polls ahead of the vote showed Tadic with a strong lead of about 10 percentage points.
Three previous attempts to elect a president failed because of a law that required at least a 50 percent voter turnout. The law has since been eliminated.
The Serbian presidency is a largely ceremonial office, but the election is seen as an important indicator of the direction and mood of the country.
