11 July 2004 -- The U.S. military says one U.S.-led coalition soldier was killed today and another wounded by a roadside bomb south of Iraq's main northern city of Mosul.
Also today, Iraqi police and witnesses in the town of Al-Hillah, south of Baghdad, are saying U.S. soldiers shot and killed two Iraqis when their vehicle tried to pass a U.S. patrol.
Today's killings come after four U.S. troops were killed yesterday in a vehicle accident in Anbar, a Sunni-dominated area west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry today said that its hopes are increasing that two Bulgarians taken hostage in Iraq are still alive after a 9 July execution deadline expired.
A militant group that has already claimed the beheadings of two foreigners in Iraq is holding the two men.
Meanwhile, Iraqi insurgents who abducted a Filipino truck driver on 8 July have extended their deadline. The hostage takers have threatened to kill the Filipino employed by a Saudi company, unless the Philippines withdraws its troops from
Iraq.
