22 July 2004 -- The U.S. military says U.S. soldiers killed 25 insurgents, wounded 17 others, and captured 25 more during several hours of fighting in the western Iraqi city of Al-Ramadi.
A military statement today said the clashes yesterday began after insurgents ambushed a military convoy. Thirteen U.S. Marines and one soldier were wounded.
U.S. troops and Iraqi security forces today clashed with insurgents in central Baghdad. An Iraqi Interior Ministry spokesman, Colonel Adnan Abd al-Rahman, said hundreds of Iraqi security forces backed by U.S. forces took part in a security operation in an area that has been the scene of unrest over the past month.
U.S. Army spokesman David Larsen confirmed that military operations involving U.S. forces were ongoing around Haifa Street but declined to provide further details.
