Suicide Bombing In Mosul Kills Three

26 July 2004 -- Three people were killed today in a suicide bombing outside a U.S. military base in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
The U.S. military said a suicide bomber detonated a pick-up truck laden with explosives near the entrance to the base.

An Iraqi woman, one child, and the driver of the truck were killed. Three U.S. soldiers and at least three members of the Iraqi security forces were wounded.

The truck was packed with mortar shells, but those did not explode, minimizing the impact.

Also today, two Iraqi women working for British forces in the southern city of Basrah were killed and two others injured when attackers sprayed their car with gunfire as the women were heading to work.

The motive for the attack was not immediately clear, but militants have often targeted Iraqis accused of collaborating with U.S.-led coalition forces.
