26 July 2004 -- Attackers shot and killed a senior Interior Ministry official in Baghdad today.
A ministry spokesman, Sabah Kadhim, said Musab al-Awadi was killed along with two bodyguards in a drive-by shooting as he left his house in the capital.
Al-Awadi was in charge of dealing with tribal affairs.
His killing is the latest in a series of assassinations or attempted assassinations of senior Iraqi officials.
Earlier today, three people were killed in a suicide truck bombing at an entrance to a U.S. military base in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. The explosion also wounded three U.S. soldiers and at least three members of the Iraqi security forces.
