30 July 2004 -- Reports say U.S. forces and insurgents clashed overnight in the Iraqi city of Al-Fallujah.
The United States military said it had carried out an air strike targeting suspected militants in eastern Al-Fallujah.
The military said U.S. Marines responded with tank and artillery fire to insurgent attacks on their positions with mortars,
rocket-propelled grenades, and small arms.
The U.S. military said there were no U.S. casualties and that it had no information about insurgent losses.
A Reuters news agency report quotes a doctor in Al-Fallujah as saying at least nine Iraqis were killed in the clashes. This could not be independently confirmed.
