Iraq Reimposes Death Penalty For Certain Crimes

8 August 2004 -- An Iraqi officials says that Iraq's interim government reinstated the death penalty today for a limited range of crimes including murder, kidnapping and drug offences.
Capital punishment was suspended after the toppling of former President Saddam Hussein in April 2003. The official said the death penalty would go into effect once it had been published in a government gazette.
