9 August 2004 -- U.S. President George W. Bush today vowed to keep pressure upon Iran so that it gives up its nuclear ambitions.
Addressing a public gathering in Washington, Bush stressed U.S. efforts to work with the international community to ensure that the United Nations nuclear agency asks Iran "hard questions" about its nuclear activities.
Earlier today in Tehran, Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi denied once again his country had violated international legislation and reiterated claims that Iran's nuclear program is meant only for peaceful and civilian purposes.
Bush's national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, yesterday said that the world is determined not to let Iran procure a nuclear weapon.
