17 August 2004 -- Georgian Interior Minister Irakli Okruashvili says one Georgian soldier was killed and three others wounded in fighting overnight in the separatist South Ossetia region.
The minister spoke early today on Georgian television.
Georgia has now reported the deaths of three soldiers in the last two days in clashes in South Ossetia that have undermined a cease-fire agreed on 13 August by the two sides.
South Ossetian representatives have denied Georgian reports of dead Ossetian fighters.
The co-chairmen of the Joint Control Commission on settling the South Ossetian conflict are due to meet today in Georgia's capital Tbilisi. The commission brings together representatives of Georgia, South Ossetia, the Russian region of North Ossetia, and Russia.
