18 August 2004 -- Police and hospital officials said at least five Iraqis were killed and some 20 others injured when a mortar hit a busy market in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul today.
It was not immediately clear who carried out the attack. Officials said the market is not near any U.S. or Iraqi security facilities.
Four Iraqis were killed and another four wounded when their minibus was caught in a shoot-out between U.S. forces and insurgents near the southern city of Kut.
The Polish military said several mortar rounds were fired today at the headquarters of the Polish-led multinational force in central Iraq. Two Polish soldiers were slightly injured.
