26 August 2004 -- Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica today said authorities have established that General Ratko Mladic, one of the most wanted war-crimes suspects, is not hiding in Serbia.
Kostunica told reporters that what he called "a very credible and thorough investigation" has been carried out and it has been established that Mladic is not on Serbian territory.
The extradition of Mladic and several other generals has become a key issue as Serbia tries to mend ties with the West. Mladic has been indicted for his role in the 1992-1995 Bosnian war, including his alleged part in the mass murder of up to 7,000 Muslim men and boys in the eastern Bosnian enclave of Srebrenica in 1995. Last week Serbia's president, Boris Tadic had said in an interview that Mladic was hiding "somewhere between Bosnia and Serbia."
