27 August 2004 -- French President Jacques Chirac says Paris is ready to play a greater role in rebuilding Iraq.
Chirac said that "France is open to dialogue with the Iraqi authorities on all issues -- training of security forces, on debt, indeed on any issue relating to reconstruction and the well-being of the Iraqi people."
He was speaking in Paris at an annual address to French ambassadors.
The French president also said that he has invited Iraqi President Ghazi Ajil al-Yawir for talks in Paris next month.
