6 September 2004 -- Iraq says that medical tests conducted on a arrested man have proven he is not Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, the highest ranking former Iraqi government official still at large.
There were conflicting statements yesterday about whether the suspect was al-Douri. But the Iraqi Interior Ministry today released a statement saying quote "appropriate medical tests" showed the suspect was not al-Douri, but was somebody related to him who is also wanted by the state.
Al-Douri was a top aide to former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and was number six on a U.S. military list of most-wanted Iraqi fugitives.
