13 October 2004 -- An Uzbek court has jailed 24 people for involvement in attacks in Uzbekistan earlier this year.
Two trials in the city of Bukhara ended yesterday with the conviction of all defendants -- 16 men and eight women -- for terrorism-related crimes connected with violence in March and April that left 47 people dead, mostly the attackers.
The sentences range from four to 18 years.
Some 85 people have been tried or are currently on trial in connection with this year's attacks in Uzbekistan.
Two other trials are currently being conducted in Tashkent, where suicide bombers attacked the U.S. and Israeli embassies and the prosecutor's office in Tashkent.
Rights groups have expressed concern over the trials, accusing authorities of using torture to extract confessions.
