Iran Reiterates Nuclear Position

18 October 2004 -- Iran yesterday reiterated that it will make no agreements with European envoys relating to nuclear technology without the Europeans first acknowledging Iran's right to have such technology for peaceful purposes.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Assefi was referring to plans for Great Britain, France, and Germany to next week present Iran with a proposal for settling differences over Iran's nuclear program.

The United States says Tehran is seeking to develop a nuclear-weapons capability -- that's something which Iran denies.

Iran is currently in noncompliance with the International Atomic Energy Agency, which has called on Tehran to stop all activities related to enriching uranium.

Enriching uranium is a key step in producing both nuclear energy and nuclear weapons.
