19 October 2004 -- Iraqi and U.S. officials say four members of the Iraqi National Guard were killed and some 80 Iraqis were wounded in a mortar attack on the guard headquarters north of Baghdad.
News agencies quote the officials as saying the attack happened in al-Mushahida, some 40 kms outside the capital. Also in Baghdad today, the head of the Iraqi branch of the CARE international aid agency, Margaret Hassan (female), was kidnapped.
Near Bahji north of Baghdad, saboteurs set an oil pipeline ablaze, halting oil pumping. And U.S. forces reportedly engaged in a heavy battle against insurgents in Al-Ramadi, about 100 kms west of Baghdad.
