17 November 2004 -- Law enforcement agents today raided the Moscow headquarters of Russia's embattled oil giant Yukos.
Russian news agencies quoted officials as saying the raid was in connection with tax debts of Yuganskneftegaz, Yukos's main production unit.
Also today, tax authorities presented Yukos with a $6.5 billion tax claim for 2002.
The company faces a total equivalent of some $18.4 billion in back taxes and penalties.
