Russian Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov
18 November 2004 -- News reports from Moscow say the head of Russia's Security Council told Iran today that Russia would continue helping Tehran carry out peaceful nuclear power projects.
The pledge was made by Russian Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov, after speaking by telephone with Hasan Rowhani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.
Ivanov is reported to have said that Russia plans to continue to play an active role in developing Iran's peaceful nuclear power sector in compliance with its appropriate international obligations.
Russia has an $800 million deal to help construct the Bushehr nuclear reactor in Iran and hopes to sign agreements on shipping nuclear fuel to Tehran later.
Earlier today, a senior Iranian nuclear official, Hussein Musavian, denied allegations by an exiled opposition group that Iran is operating a secret nuclear bomb facility.
He said the site in question is unrelated to Iran's civil nuclear program. He said also that Iran has no undeclared nuclear activities.
