10 January 2005 -- Iraq's Interior Ministry says gunmen have killed one of Baghdad's deputy police chiefs and his son.
Interior Ministry spokesman Captain Ahmad Ismail said Brigadier Amer Ali Nayef and his son, also a police officer, were shot to death while traveling in a car on their way to work today.
Iraq's newly developed security forces have been a primary target of attacks by insurgents who accuse them of collaborating with U.S.-led forces.
Gunmen killed the deputy police chief of the city of Al-Samarra, Muhammad Muzaffar, yesterday. Also yesterday, the interior ministry said U.S. soldiers mistakenly shot dead two Iraqi policemen and two civilians after an attack on their convoy south of Baghdad.
