13 January 2005 -- Iranian human-rights activist Shirin Ebadi says a hard-line court has ordered her to appear for questioning.
Ebadi, winner of the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize, told the French news agency AFP that she will be arrested unless she submits to questioning within three days. Ebadi said she does not know what the judiciary wants to ask her and she has not decided whether to respond to the summons.
Ebadi's team of lawyers has been involved in several high-profile cases recently. They represented the family of Zahra Kazemi, a Canadian-Iranian photographer killed while in custody in Iran in 2003. And they took up the defense of journalist Akbar Ganji, who was jailed in 2000 after alleging top regime officials were linked to a string of murders.
