17 January 2005 -- Iraqi expatriates living in 14 countries began registering today to take part in Iraq's 30 January election.
It is estimated that up to 1.5 million Iraqis living abroad will be eligible to vote in the election.
The out-of-country vote is being organized by the Geneva-based International Organization of Migration, which chose the 14 countries with large Iraqi communities to host the ballot.
Iraqi expatriates have until 23v January to register. They will then have three days to cast their ballots, from 28 January to 30 January.
Votes may be cast in the United States, Australia, Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Iran, Jordan, the Netherlands, Sweden, Syria, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.
