4 February 2005 -- Mystery surrounds the fate of an Afghan passenger airplane with more than 100 people on board.
Officials at Kam Air say their plane -- flying from the western Afghan city of Herat -- was told not to land yesterday in Kabul because of heavy snow there. Officials at Kam Air, Afghanistan's only private airline, said the plane was then cleared to land at an airport in Pakistan, possibly the border city of Peshawar. But as of this morning, Kam Air officials said they had no word on whether the plane had landed safely.
Pakistani aviation officials told The Associated Press today that the plane never entered their airspace. And the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan said yesterday it had no word of a missing aircraft.
