8 February 2005 -- European Union and Iranian officials met in Geneva today for talks on Iran's nuclear program, but both sides indicated after the talks that the meeting yielded little progress.
It was the third meeting between officials from Iran, Britain, France, and Germany, all of whom have been seeking a solution to disputes surrounding Iran's nuclear-development program.
The United States has accused Iran of using its nuclear program to develop atomic weapons.
Iran has countered that its nuclear program is for energy purposes only and insisted it has a right to develop such energy sources.
Iranian security chief Hassan Rohani has said Tehran wants to resolve its outstanding differences with the United States but accused Washington of a lack of interest in finding a common solution.
