Senior Army Officer Killed In Iraq Attacks

13 February 2005 -- Insurgents killed at least five people in attacks in Iraq today, including a senior army officer gunned down in an ambush.
Iraqi Army Captain Sa'd Amjad said the officer and his two companions were killed this morning by armed men north of Baghdad.

He did not provide further information about the identities of the victims.

The group of the Al-Qaeda frontman in Iraq, Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi, said in an Internet statement that it had killed Iraqi General Jad'an Malih in an attack north of Baghdad.

The statement, whose authenticity could not be verified, said Malih was commander of a military camp at Taji, north of Baghdad, and that two other people had been killed in the attack.
