16 February 2005 -- Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi and his German counterpart, Joschka Fischer, met today in Berlin to discuss Iran's nuclear program.
Fischer said a new agreement on the issue would open prospects for stronger ties between Iran and the European Union.
Kharrazi said he thinks there are possibilities to remove European concerns over Iran's nuclear ambitions, and that Iran is ready for "compromise and cooperation" on the issue.
As part of Kharrazi's visit, the two foreign ministers opened Iran's new embassy in Berlin together.
The United States and Israel accuse Iran of pursuing a nuclear weapons program, which Iran denies.
France, Germany and Britain are leading a diplomatic effort to convince Tehran to give up uranium enrichment activities in exchange for economic and trade benefits.
German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder today called on the United States to support European diplomatic efforts to restrict Iran's nuclear activities.
