22 February 2005 -- Pakistan's Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz is due to begin a three-day visit to Iran today that is expected to include talks on a pipeline project that would carry gas from Iran to India via Pakistan.
Aziz told reporters before his departure that he expects significant progress on the proposed pipeline during his visit to Tehran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi discussed the pipeline project during a visit to India yesterday.
The Pakistani government said Pakistan and Iran were expected to conclude several agreements to strengthen their economic relations during Aziz's visit to Tehran.
The Pakistani prime minister's talks were also expected to include talks on Iraq and the situation in Afghanistan, which neighbors both Iran and Pakistan.
Aziz is expected to meet with President Mohammed Khatami.
